Campus Build
Campus Build is an annual event hosted by the MIT Chapter of Habitat for Humanity, designed to raise awareness on campus about the global housing crisis and Habitat's cause.
Campus Build 2009 will be held on Friday, April 24 in and around Kresge. The event will feature:
The Cardboard House Building Competition!
10 AM - 7:30 PM, Kresge Oval
Ten teams of 4-5 students each will participate in the Cardboard House Building Competition! Using only cardboard, duct tape, and box cutters, and given an 8' by 8' plot of Kresge Oval, each team will construct a stable structure that can fit all team members inside. The teams will have to get creative - the competition will be judged by Course 4 (Architecture) Professors Chang (the Dept Head), Wampler, and Kennedy, as well as the construction supervisor of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Lowell.
The teams will begin construction at 10am, and judging will occur from 6-7pm. The winning team will be announced at 7pm, and team members will each be awarded a $25 gift card to CambridgeSide Galleria.
Swing a Hammer! Picnic Table Construction
11 AM - 6 PM, back steps of Kresge, facing the Z center)
We will also be constructing five 6ft-long picnic tables that will be donated to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Lowell. Come by for as long as you like to swing a hammer (or a screw gun)! No experience is required. Anyone and everyone are welcome to join us!
Free Barbecue Dinner
5 PM, Kresge Pits - lawn next to Kresge, facing Dorm Row
